I've been reading this book "The Coming Jobs War"  the past few weeks and it has been a fascinating read.  A huge thank you must go out to John Hancock who recommended this book.  You can find his blog here.

You might be thinking, "What does the title of my blog post, My Real Healthcare Solution: Fitcare, have to do with the book that I've been reading."  Well, I think it has a lot to do with it.  In fact, the author, Jim Clifton, suggests that if we don't solve this issue we'll destroy job creation and thus lose the jobs war.

The problem is our government, at all levels, is focusing on the wrong problem.  The Healthcare bill that was passed doesn't do anything to reduce the cost of healthcare it's just an insurance bill concerning coverage and payments.  That's it.

"It is a bill about who gets healthcare and who pays for it."

Clifton, Jim (2011-10-04). The Coming Jobs War (Kindle Locations 1602-1603). Gallup Press. Kindle Edition.

Now, you must know the only product I don't offer in my agency is Health Insurance.  I refer this out to independent agents who specialize in this confusing yet important coverage.

I do, though, stay informed with the latest information regarding health insurance and this week I received the latest edition of Health Insurance Underwriter.  In it, an article caught my eye "An Alternative Approach to Curbing Health-Benefit Costs" which I thought would be promising but it still misses the mark.

The author suggests that healthcare will improve when companies/employers "require their employees to be a part of the solution instead of the problem."  Unfortunately, the offered solutions in the article still focused more on who's paying and less on personal responsibility.  My other concern with this article was the fact it focused on large businesses.  You'll learn, if you read the above book, that the vast majority of employees work for company's with less than 100 employees so the solution offered in this article just isn't practical financially for most of these small businesses.

So, what is the Real Solution?  The answer is in my blog title.  We need to change our thinking from Healthcare to Fitcare.  We are an unfit nation in so many ways and there isn't enough money in the U.S. to pay for the looming costs we all face.  We couldn't even borrow it from China because they don't have enough money to loan to us for this problem.

Getting fit and being fit from an early age is of National importance and we won't solve any of our problems without turning this around.

So, how do we get fit?  I believe it's really rather simple.  We need to get up off our asses and walk.  And we need to walk a lot.  Let me share with you what I did in August 2012 in Chandler, Arizona to improve my personal fitness.

I challenged myself to walk/jog 100 miles in 30 days.  That's 45-60 minutes everyday and about 3.33 miles.  I walked/jogged everyday except Friday's.  I walked 25 times in August for a total distance of 100.44 miles.  I averaged 4.02 miles, 57:35 minutes, and 12,794 calories burned.  I didn't do this challenge to lose weight.  I wanted to do this to improve my fitness.  A bi-product of getting fit is weight loss.  I lost 7 lbs and it's still off today.

America is trying to solve this problem in the wrong ways but solving this is totally up to you.  You, and only you, can improve your fitness.  The Federal Government can't, State Government can't, and your Employer can't. Only You Can!

Take my Challenge.  Tomorrow is October 1st.  Challenge yourself to walk/jog 100 miles as I am doing again.  Let me know how you're doing.  Friend me on Facebook (my
link) and let me know how you're doing.  Let's solve this problem the only way that we can.  Let's get Fit!
