In case you didn't see this yet (I know I wasn't watching the NBA Draft) good things still happen in our professional sports leagues. In this case, the Commissioner of the NBA, Adam Silver, made a class move by drafting Isaiah Austin from Baylor University to the NBA. It was a touching tribute to a young man who's NBA career was cut short this week. He has a life threatening disorder called Marfan syndrome which affects the heart and prevents him from fulfilling his life long dream. Take a few minutes to watch the video.
How does this relate to making wise decisions about insurance? Well, what you may not know is Isaiah Austin has a $1,000,000 insurance policy that the NCAA makes available to elite athletes while in college. This policy pays when the athlete has a total disability that ends their career.
Now, this certainly doesn't fully compensate Mr. Austin because he would have made significantly more during his basketball career. But the decision to purchase the insurance was a wise one no doubt and something we should all consider. Read the full article.
